noah nailed the look and feel of the rainy weekend, but I have my own picture of that fucking burrito, and four other fine pictures. More pictures of the Serra at dia at the fotolog.
a side group made a (successful) expedition to the not-hard-to-find ice caves. our true goal of shangri-la still eludes us. . .
peeps: if you want to add something to this blog, you can just bookmark this link. if you're not already logged in, of course, you'll need to do so.
The 2003 schedule: 5/17-18*, 5/31-6/1, 6/14-15, 6/21-22*, 7/5-6, 7/12-13*, 7/26-27, 8/23-24 [*= no noah inna coop]
FYI from Apple: iPod's battery works best when iPod is at room temperature, generally near 20 °C, but you can use iPod anywhere between 10 °C and 35 °C (about 50 ºF to 95 ºF). If you have left iPod in the cold, let it warm up to room temperature before waking it from sleep. Otherwise, a low-battery icon may appear, and iPod will not wake from sleep. If after warming up, iPod does not wake from sleep, connect the power adapter, and press the Menu and Play/Pause buttons until the Apple logo appears.
Driving directions from Manhattan: Take the George Washington Bridge Upper level and stay to the right, first exit on right to the Palisades Parkway North. Follow the signs to the Thruway 87 North (Albany), the exit is 9W (though it is the second 9W you will pass). Follow 87N to exit 18. At the signal, turn left onto 32, continuing through the town of New Paltz. After you pass the downtown area, drive over the bridge and make the first right. (follow signs for Mohonk mountain house) After about a half a mile, the road forks stay left (follow Mohonk Signs). From the fork, (set your odometer) follow the road over a mountain pass for 5.2 miles. A (very) small sign to Alligerville marks the next left. Follow this road for 2.4 miles until you hit a stop sign at the Lucas Turnpike. Go left and proceed for 2.2 miles until the road ends at Highway 209. Make a left, and after about a block, take the first right, just after the Sunoco gas station and PxMart onto Upper Whitfield Road. Drive 1.4 miles to Lower Whitfield Road and go left at the intersection (facing traffic has a stop sign, you don't). From this intersection, drive 1.2 miles to Store Road (the road is unmarked) and make a right. About 150 feet down on the right, the 6th mailbox (or group of them), is the house--26a Store Road. We are the stone, low-rise house in front, adjacent to a large stone barn. [approximate map]
the skinny on IceFest 03: "Here is Rock & Snow's announcement for the 2003 Ice Festival. Barring tropical weather, this years fest will happen - but in a different manner. Instead of just 2 dates, we will spread the events out over 6 different dates. The group size will shrink from 35 to 10 or 12, and we won't have a hotshot climber at each of the events. We will have equipment for people to try (and will provide all of the equipment for those who have none), but this won't be the focus of the events. Rather, the focus will be on getting you as much information as possible in a setting that doesn't resemble a circus (one where the clowns all have sharp things attached to various points of their bodies)."
did some research and found a few gun clubs in new paltz. the best-looking option was the New Paltz Rod & Gun Club (more info. Old Kingston Road, 845.255.7586, or 67 P.O. Box 363, 845.658.9662. From Rt. 299 (Main St.) in New Paltz, go north on Rt. 32 for 1.5 miles to Shivertown Rd. Turn left and go to stop sign, turn right on Old Kingston road. Go to Gun Club road and turn left, Follow to end).
